This day had been joyfully anticipated by the Shirts and Kelso family, and it was a privilege for me to document this day for Chris and Mercedes. All of the small moments, from prayers before the wedding, to Texas two-stepping on the dance floor made this day unforgettable.
Chris & Mercedes's Engagement Story
Chris and Mercedes met at Pie Hole pizza in Boise, Idaho the day before Christmas Eve. Chris was immediately smitten by Mercedes' big brown eyes and genuine heart, and Mercedes was drawn to Chris' gray hair and affectionate personality. After a first date at Bardenay and a Kalimotxo at the Basque Center, enamored of each other, the pair went their separate ways - Mercedes back to San Antonio, and Chris to South Korea, where he was stationed in the Air Force.
After a couple of months of constant FaceTime dates and a visit in San Fransisco, Mercedes visited Chris in South Korea in March, and for three weeks in June.
Shortly into their relationship, Chris learned that he would be stationed in San Antonio in July of 2017. A providential sign, Chris and Mercedes knew God had brought their paths together.
After settling into life in San Antonio together, Chris proposed to Mercedes the day before Christmas Eve in Weiser, Idaho.
I started the day with Mercedes and the bridal party at the Inn at 500 in downtown Boise. While Mercedes was having her makeup done, her niece sat on her lap and watched with big blue eyes! I loved the bridesmaids' matching purple robes, that the flower girl and Mercedes's little niece also matched in lavender dresses.
After everyone was ready to go, we left to Sacred Heart. As guests filed in, Mercedes and her bridal party prayed together over the coming union. The tears definitely started at that moment, and continued to right before the ceremony, where Mercedes and her father waited in prayer before walking down the aisle.
After the ceremony, Mercedes, Chris and I headed to Kathryn Albertson Park for portraits. The park was a perfect, calm place for Chris and Mercedes to have a few moments to themselves for photos before heading to the reception. They talked to each other about why they were excited to finally be husband and wife, and laughed together before heading to the Basque Center.
Chris and Mercedes wanted their reception to be a big celebration, and it totally was. I loved getting to capture everyone having a great time on the dance floor, the tears of the father-daughter dance, Chris and Mercedes two-stepping to their first dance, and especially the moment when the DJ played Piano Man. (For some reason the groomsmen lead everyone in joining arms around the bride and groom and belting out this Elton John classic. It was a fantastic time, and maybe a tradition that I’ve never heard of before?!)
I really enjoyed capturing these memories for Chris and Mercedes, and I am so excited to share a little piece of their love story here.
